Goodman Furnaces, Air conditioning, and heat pumps brand work just as good as the other major brands (of the same components).

The basic structure furnace, heat pump, air conditioner is basically the same from manufacturer to manufacturer. The main difference between units is the heat exchanger on a furnace and the coils on an air conditioner or heat pump are made by the manufacturer and the workings; fan motors compressors, electrical controls are made by a hand full of the same manufactures.

So if you look at the structure (cabinet) of one unit to another it will look different but accomplish the same thing. All the energy ratings are determined by the same testing institute (ARI). So one unit that is rated for a certain capacity will work the same as another brand of the same capacity. One unit of a 13 seer efficiency will use the same amount of energy as another unit of a 13 seer efficiency (when new).

The similarity is of all the brand names of air conditioner or heat pump they will have one of three brands of compressor Copeland, Bristol, Tecumseh. When you go to replace the compressor you may end up with one of the three brands (except for Trane and American Standard which is another story, They use the American Standard Climatruff series and if you have a GE it will have the same compressor).

The same holds true for the fan motors gas controls, defrost timers, contactors all the electrical controls are made by the same pool of manufactures. So if you buy a Goodman, it will last as long or the same as any of the major brands because they all have the same moving parts. On the same token it will not work any better or worse that a competitors equipment of the same rating and efficiency.

The one thing that is of great importance is when you buy an Air conditioner or heat pump be sure you buy one that is "louvered". Some models of the same brand have a protected coil and others do not and are exposed to potential damage. Especially if you have kids around. And don't forget storm damage. Hits from hail will greatly reduce the efficiency of your a/c and can in turn lead to some serious system problems later causing your a/c to fail when called upon during extreme hot weather. It is better to replace and upgrade to a new system able to handle this short hot summer we have in Minnesota. Not to mention that you will save over the summer months with our 13 seer system.

The major difference from one brand to another is the price you will pay to buy it and have it installed. Also you have to consider the service and warranty. Say if your compressor goes bad and has to be replaced in say 5 years. Will your contractor that you hired 5 years ago to install your system come back and replace your compressor without any cost to you? YBDHC will!  As a contractor, I have to buy equipment to provide for my customers after I have gained their trust and sold the Goodman system to them. Then, I must provide a trouble free system, at no cost, that is backed by my company's service for 10 years. Not just prorated limited warranties.

A word about maintenance, the customer is responsible for changing their filters, cleaning their condensers, cleaning their furnaces, ect. My company does this paid service to keep the furnace and air conditioners running as efficiently as possible.

Most of the "major name brand" equipment is bought through a dealership that requires the dealer/contractor to buy thousands of dollars of equipment a year to just sit in their stock room collecting dust. Of  coarse the dealer wants to get rid of as much equipment as possible. Now the dealership and the manufacturer have to advertise to get rid of their inventory, costing the dealership and the manufacturer  thousands of dollars. Where you you think they get the money to advertise from? You, the consumer. The price goes up to cover advertising.  The homeowner that wants the latest name brand that is the current model at a cost that is the same or better than the competition, chances are you are getting a model that is two years or more out of the dealer's storage. Be sure that they will honor the full warranty coming to you as the customer.

YBDHC buys direct from the supplier which supplies Yours By Design with the Goodman brand models and warranties that are fresh off the line, reducing the cost of the equipment and storage. The overhead is less (advertising and storage) so my company can sell and install your Goodman brand equipment for less.

So my final answer is go ahead and buy Goodman and expect the same service that you would from any other brand with the same parts.

Thank you for your time,
